Nov 28, 2001 "Gyeongnami & Gyeongi", the characters of Gyeongsangnam-do, symbolize the spirit of Gyeongsangnam-do, which is advancing to the future with its long history and brilliant traditions. The characters express ultramodern machine industry, the priority industry in Gyeongsangnam-do, as bright and energetic images. The toothed wheels, which are key symbols of machine industry, are personified as images of lovely children. "Gyeongnami" stands for the strong will and spirit of Gyeongsangnam-do people, and "Gyeongi" expresses the Gyeongsangnam-do people's positive hope.

Its imposing disposition and magnificent figure represents the spirit of Gyeongsangnam-do people and symbolizes eternal prosperity. Especially, the fact that people gather around the tree to discuss and decide important matters of the village shows us the realization of sprit of local autonomy.


Nov 28, 2001 Jun 9, 1978 There are 7 white heron habitats in the nation and 2 of them are in Gyeongsangnam-do (Doseon-ri, Dosan-myeon, Tongyeong-si, and Duyang-ri, Okjong-myeon, Hadong-gun) The white heron's elegant and noble appearance evokes affection from people. It's spotlessly white and pure image coincides with the pride of community loving Gyeongsangnam-do people. Its characteristics of cleanliness, integrity, and independence are similar to those of Gyeongsangnam-do people who are simple, sincere, and diligent and it symbolizes the harmony and solidarity of Gyeongsangnam-do people.


May 8, 1997 Coastal waters of Korea and Japan south of Hokkaido The bollak is a coastal fish living between rocks in the shallow water. They eat small crustaceans. Their colors vary according to their habitats but mostly gray. It stands by the progressive spirit of Gyeongsangnam-do people and the boundless potential of Gyeongsangnam-do fishery industry that is rapidly growing in the world.
